Beautiful Work

Let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands…. Psalm 90:17a

Happy Friday, all! Moms of small children, you will like today’s challenge. Do you have children’s books in your house that you inwardly groan when your child asks you to read them… because they are so DUMB? Discreetly toss those books in the trash *or in the give away bag!* today. Make sure you bury them, though, or your child might pull them out like mine did!

I figure that reading should be a pleasurable experience for all. There are so many good books out there that there is no reason to keep the ones that  are not really worth your time.  Two of my favorites that are sure to keep you as engaged as your child are Bedtime for Frances (Russell Hoban) and  Lyle Lyle Crocodile (Bernard Waber).

To find some more good books, I’d recommend Honey for a Child’s Heart by Gladys Hunt. It lists all kinds of good books for different ages and subjects.

so i cringed when you said to throw children’s books -in.the.garbage? ouch! it’s only because i adore them just as much as my girls. :)

Okay, ours didn’t go in the garbage either…they are in a bag in the garage waiting to head to a freecycle style place.

Ours did go in the garbage. I can’t emphasize enough how DUMB these books were. Like, your IQ goes down while reading them dumb. You’re just going to have to trust me. I didn’t want to subject anyone to these books. Normally, I would definitely send them to the thrift store :)
