Beautiful Work

Let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands…. Psalm 90:17a

Our Christmas Traditions December 2, 2008

Well I want to start out by saying the best thing that I have done with my family is to evaluate with my husband how we can all meditate on Christ together without going crazy!!  This has meant that thus far each season has been different.  I love holidays and making a big deal of events and spending time with people but this can lead to a very busy and stressful holiday.  The 2 things we have done over that last several years are:

1.  An advent calendar that talks about different aspects of Jesus or His coming every day.  We read a verse and talk about it and then sing a little song.

2.  Our Christmas Eve dinner.  This is my favorite!!  Basically we tell the Christmas story through a long dinner.  So we start with appetizers and reflect on John the Baptist and the fact that he was a forerunner to Christ.  All the side dishes reflect a different side note to the story.  The main dish is where we talk about his birth and dessert is where we talk about His glory.  We do this by candle light.  It has really changed each year depending on our family.  Some years it has been more elaborate than others :)
