I have to say I LOVE Thanksgiving!! It is my favorite holiday ever. No gifts, just a time to get together with friends and family, eat good food and remember all the things we are thankful for.
Here are a few tidbits and traditions I have learned over the years…
- At our church they always hand out grocery bags to fill up and donate to those in need. We love to do this! My older girls love shopping and so this is a great way for them to serve.
- For devotions we talk about and think about what we are thankful for all week leading up to Thanksgiving. Then on or around Thanksgiving we write the thing we are most thankful for from the year on a feather or leaf and make a tree or a turkey,
- If you are hosting Thanksgiving set up a schedule!!!!! So helpful. There are many things you can make ahead of time like the cranberry chutney/sauce can be made up to 2 days in advance, the stuffing can be made the day before as well as the pies and potatoes. When you break up the work you are more able to enjoy the day. I actually write out what I am making each day and the ingredients I need. The stores tend to run out of things like fresh parsley (yes I procrastinate and have learned this first hand), if you put shopping off too long. One other tip always check how long you will need to defrost the turkey if you bought a frozen one. There are so many wonderful recipes out there so have fun!!!!!
